Every Nine Seconds!

Every nine seconds a kid drops out of high school. Then what? Take a look that the news. That’s what! But, there are foundations and groups out there that are stepping in and making a difference in the lives of young people.

It’s Global Entrepreneurship Week and a film that fosters the entrepreneurial thought process and sprit in young people is being screened all around the US. The film Ten9Eight:Shoot for the Moon is a documentary by award-winning filmmaker Mary Mazzio and it follows a group of low-income inner city teenagers (of differing race, religion, and ethnicity) as they compete in an annual business plan competition run by the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE).

Today is the last day of this film’s showings. The run time is 1hr 25mins. Check your local listings and check it out. It’s showing only in these select cities:

  1. Looks like a very interesting documentary. Every time I see a kid with a lemonade stand I am reminded of the entrepreneurial spirit that is hidden inside all of us.

    None showing in San Francisco? I think what contributes to the high drop out rate is simply because today, both parents go to work. When I was working (don’t anymore), my family schedule was so hectic. There was really little time to squeeze in to look over my kids’ homeworks or even tutored them. It was really hard and I hated it. I think it makes a world of a difference when one parent is not working or at least work just part time and dedicate more time with the kids.
